Justin Timberlake has made an astounding return to the music industry in recent months with two smash hit singles in the forms of “Suit and Tie” and the recent number one “Mirrors”.These are both featured on his brand new album The 20/20 Experience which is due out on the 19th March and sure to sell millions due to the fan base he commands.

It’s been roughly seven years since his previous release FutureSex/LoveSounds and his hiatus from music led to many to believe that he was finished with the business and focusing purely on his acting career on into the future.

This news of his upcoming new album then has no doubt caused huge amounts of excitement around the world and shows JT is ready to reclaim his title as a major pop heavyweight.

Since his early successes with N*Sync, Justin was able to seamlessly move into his solo career with his debut Justified which spawned an incredible number of hit singles as well as two Grammy awards.

Some of the production on this debut album was done by rapper and producer Timberland and Timberlake has returned to him for production on 20/20 and you can instantly hear a return to form and him going back to the classic sounds which worked so well all the way back in 2002, particularly with the single ‘Mirrors’.
The relationship with the producer is summed up during an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, “My relationship with Tim is very unique; we share the same perspective.”
The title of the album speaks volumes itself. In an interview with Ryan Seacrest he explained the reason behind the title. “It more or less came out of I was playing some of the stuff for my friends and they would come in and out of the studio and I’d say ‘What do you think of this?’ and my best friend said, ‘This is music that you can see’ and for some reason that stuck with me.”
It’s all about clear vision and being able to see. Perhaps an underlying reasoning that his time away from music helped him step back and see the industry for what it had become and with such clear vision was able to return and make an instant success.
In regards to the sound of the album Timberlake explains how it “goes a lot of different directions. I think there’s probably a little bit of what was reminiscent on the first album and then a little bit of what’s reminiscent of the second album and then some new stuff” showing how he’s returning to the formula which has always worked for him.
There are going to be 10 tracks on the album with the majority tracks being between 7 to 8 minutes long and taking inspiration from the old greats whilst doing this. He states “If Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin can do 10 minute songs and Queen can do 10 minute songs then why can’t we? We’ll figure out the radio edits later.”
It will be interesting to see if a storyline or narrative will be picked up in the album and if it is designed for seamless play or not.
Suit and Tie, the first single from the album features rap superstar Jay Z. Whilst talking on the Jonathan Ross show Timberlake stated how he is “an anomaly, and I mean that in a very positive way.”
Justin featured on Jay Z and Kanye West’s ‘Watch The Throne’ tour during their American dates and this friendship and multiple collaborations with Jay Z led to much speculation about a tour featuring the two men, something that was only heightened after their fantastic Grammy award performance.
LEGENDS OF THE SUMMER Stadium Tour has now officially been announced and definitely involves both JT and Jay Z and will be Justin’s main and first 20/20 Experience tour. This will kick start in Toronto on the 17th July this year and will tour across the United States until August 16th with 13 shows.
It will then be a waiting game for us here in the UK to see if this stadium tour comes over on a world tour as well.
In the meantime all fans of the men will be desperate to obtain some tickets for this year’s Wireless Festival taking place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London where Justin will be performing on Friday 12th July before both men bring the Legends of the Summer tour to the UK for one date on Sunday 14th July ending the festival in style!
With fantastic performances at the already mentioned Grammys as well as at the Brit Awards and Saturday Night Live in America it’s clear that Justin has not lost any of his fantastic stage presence.
If early singles and performances are anything to go by, as well as everything he has done in the past, then the 20/20 Experience is something worth being very excited about and could prove to be a massive seller in regards to the albums of 2013.
Check it out as soon as it drops on the 19th March and get searching for Wireless Festival tickets quick time!
